As an AI Engineer in Propel Health AI, you will use your expertise in generative AI to architect, build/deploy agentic AI systems for advanced analytics in the healthcare and life sciences industry. Your work will encompass the entire software development lifecycle, from participating in technical design and documentation to development, testing, and deployment. As a key member of our product team, you will draw upon your software engineering skills to collaborate closely with our engineering team, product manager and business analysts to build robust, observable and scalable analytics features in our platform.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions using foundation models (e.g., GPT-4, Gemini), vector databases and frameworks such as LangGraph.
- Deploy and manage AI-powered applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), leveraging CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Optimise vector search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines for AI-enhanced analytics and decision support.
- Develop and optimise backend services that facilitate efficient interaction with LLM APIs, ensuring low latency and cost-effective AI operations.
- Lead the way in innovation by recognising and executing internal process enhancements, including revamping infrastructure components.
- Collaborate in shaping the technical direction within your domain, working hand-in-hand with your team and senior peers across departments.
Expected Skills & Experience
- Professional experience in AI infrastructure engineering, with a focus on integrating LLMs (e.g., GPT-4, Gemini) and vector databases into production systems.
- Expertise in LLMOps, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, and prompt orchestration.
- Experience developing, deploying, and optimising AI-powered microservices and APIs in Python. Bonus for familiarity with FHIR, HL7, and healthcare data interoperability.
- Experience with cloud computing (GCP preferred, AWS/Azure acceptable), with hands-on skills in Terraform and serverless computing.
- Strong software engineering skills in Python, including OOP, algorithm development, and API development.
- CI/CD development experience, in particular familiarity with Github Actions and serverless code deployment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience utilising LLM validation frameworks in order to optimise performance of generative AI applications.
- Experience designing and building data integrations and APIs with Python. Bonus for familiarity with FHIR and HL7.
- Experience with ETL pipelines and data warehouses using BigQuery
- Experience with database schema design, and automated testing
- Experience in crafting automated data engineering solutions in a cloud environment, and a grasp of the underlying infrastructure and deployment processes.
- Experience with designing and implementing solutions on GCP for both batch and event-driven processing (AWS or Azure equivalent acceptable)
- Strong knowledge of SQL and No-SQL databases
- Experience with data warehouses, data lake ETL pipeline tools and using BigQuery
- Eager to become an expert in FHIR, encompassing its core concepts like interoperability, FHIR (JSON) Rest API, Resources, and Profiles. If you’re already adept in FHIR, it’s a significant advantage.
- Can create and deliver project presentations and results to client stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
